The idea was shortlisted as a finalist - the only one from NSW - for Wotif's 'Festival of Wot?' competition, the winner will be decided by the public to choose which festival should take place.

Daniel Finch, managing director of Wotif, said it's important that residents vote for the event, which will showcase the best local produce.

"If there's anywhere that could hold a Festival of Snags, Mudgee is it," he said.

"It's a beautiful town filled with passionate people and most importantly some stunning local produce including award-winning sausages.

Des Kennedy, Mid-Western Regional Council Mayor, added that the opportunity to be provided an event such as this would be too good to pass up.

"Wotif is gifting a town with a festival and Mudgee is the only NSW town in the running," he said.

"We've been nominated to host the Festival of Snags, a concept that marries perfectly with our region as having some of the best beef cattle producers and butchers in the country.

"This is a wonderful opportunity. Wotif will co-ordinate the event and work with local suppliers ensuring all the economic benefit is felt locally.
