Two men have been charged with various firearm offences following a routine vehicle stop in Mudgee late last week.

At about 8.25pm on Thursday (September 26, 2019), officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District stopped a Mitsubishi Triton utility travelling on Douro Street for the purpose of a mandatory roadside breath and drug testing.
The male driver, aged 23, returned a positive result for methylamphetamine and following further inquiries police obtained reason to search the vehicle.
Officers allegedly located and seized two loaded and unsecured rifles, ammunition and knives within the utility.
The man was arrested and taken to Mudgee Police Station where he was charged with possess unauthorised firearm, possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, not keep firearm safely (x2), assault police officer in execution of duty, and intimidate police officer in execution of duty.
He was bail refused and appeared before Orange Local Court yesterday (Monday, September 30, 2019) where he was granted conditional bail to reappear before Mudgee Local Court on Wednesday, October 9, 2019.
Following inquiries, police arrested and charged a second man with a firearm offence at Mudgee Police Station about 10am on Friday morning.
The 22-year-old man was charged with possess unauthorised firearm. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Mudgee Local Court next Wednesday.
