Warmer months of the year are peak times for storms with the season running from October 1 until March 31.

"When the weather heats up over summer the frequency of storms tends to increase," SES community capability officer Josh Clark said.

Each year the SES and the Bureau of Meteorology work together to keep the community informed about wild weather and the chance of storms across the region.

"It's really to make the community of what's happening around them and give them time to prepare," he said.

Mr Clark said the Central West's SES volunteers are called out to a wide range of emergencies each storm season.

"The calls can be to damage from a hail storm, roof leaks, trees falling down onto vehicles and localised flash flooding," he said.

Mr Clark said people should stay out of creeks, rivers and storm drains during storms.

"Kids should be encouraged never to play in drains," he said.
