Mark Gallaher, aged 49, of Brierley Avenue, Port Macquarie, was stopped by police at about 12.25pm on Thursday, July 18, 2019, for exceeding the 100km/h speed limit on Vinegaroy Road.
He handed over a licence that had expired on June 21, 2019, and told officers "I didn't know, I never received a renewal".
A check using their mobile data terminal revealed that Gallaher had been unlicensed since being disqualified from August 2017 until January 2018 in Western Australia for a drink driving offence.
When asked about this, he claimed that he's never been to Western Australia or charged with drink driving. He also said he had a licence in Queensland, although no records indicated this.
Further checks through the Roads and Maritime Service, showed that his NSW licence was cancelled in January 2018 following the disqualification period.
And in the time since being stopped, police heard back from their WA counterparts who confirmed that Gallaher did have a traffic record in the state - which included the drink driving matter.
Upon reading the police facts submitted to the court, Magistrate David Day commented "he's full of stories isn't he?"
