Mid-Western Regional Council has clarified some additional information surrounding planned drainage upgrades announced earlier this week after feedback by residents on the Mudgee Guardian Facebook page.

The original announcement advised that public access will be restricted to some areas of Lawson Park from Monday 14 October as Council undertakes upgrades to the existing drainage network.

Works will be undertaken in the eastern area of the park and will include restricted access to areas adjacent to Cudgegong River weir and temporary closure of Mudgee Pool car park.
Councill said parking will still be available on Short Street and in Lawson Park, adjacent to the playground. The works are expected to take approximately four weeks, weather permitting. All other areas of the park will remain open during this time.

After this announcement, the feedback, which mostly questioned the decision to choose a time in the year when the Mudgee Pool is operational, Council decided to clarify some specific details.
In a statement to the Mudgee Guardian, Council says the drainage works were scheduled to 'take advantage of continuing dry conditions' and that the car park at Mudgee Pool won't be closed the entire time.

Lawson Park drainage works have been scheduled for October-November, following school holidays to take advantage of continuing dry conditions for installation and to minimize disruption during the peak period.
The upgrade involves excavation, installation and connection of a large 900mm pipe across Lawson Park that will divert storm water away from the Mudgee CBD.
Conditions must be extremely dry to complete the installation as quickly as possible with minimal disruption and Council is taking advantage of the optimal conditions in October - November.
These are essential works and must be completed to upgrade the existing drainage network. The works are planned to involve only the partial closure of the car park with loss of some car spaces during the period of construction.
Council is sympathetic to residents and patrons to Lawson Park and the pool, and will take reasonable measures to ensure the timely completion of the works.
