Danae Margaret Micki Kennedy of Denison Street, Mudgee, was jailed for a further 18 months with a non-parole period of 12 months.
In February, she was sentenced to a non-parole period of two years three months. She lodged an appeal, which was to be heard in Dubbo District Court on May 28, and was granted bail on March 14.
On the afternoon of May 8, Kennedy stole two bottles of vodka (valued at $100) from Mudgee Liquorland, by putting them into her bag. Then on May 17, she took two sets of undergarments (valued at $50) from Mudgee Big W.
From there the 36-year-old went to Target and was seen leaving wearing a hoodie (valued $39) that was different to the one she had on when she entered the store, which was now draped over her bag. Furthermore, the security tag was found within the shop.
She then took a number of items (totalling $15) from Woolworths, upon leaving the store she was stopped by police. And told them she'd used a bank card to pay for the items, which she was unable to produce, nor did she have any receipts.
Magistrate David Day said the matters were "brazen" and it "beggars belief" they were committed while on District Court bail for "a very serious break and enter". However, he said that viewed in isolation, shoplifting is serious enough because of the costs of loss prevention are put back onto consumers.
"Everyone pays more for their goods because people like Ms Kennedy steal," he said. "It's the community that suffers from shoplifting - retail isn't an act of charity."
