This will be the fourth year of Gone Fishing run by the Wallerawang branch of the Central Acclimatisation Society (CAS) and there are plenty of prizes to be won including a major $10,000 cash draw and prizes for the species of fish caught on the day.
Wallerawang CAS secretary Ray Tang said the event was a chance for people to throw in a line and also create pest awareness about Redfin.
"There's prizes for the biggest trout junior and senior, biggest bass junior and senior and largest bag of Redfin because we want to catch and remove as many Redfin from the lake as possible, but also have a bit of fun," he said.
Every kid will get receive something on the day and every adult in the competition will receive a ticket for their chance to win $10,000.
The massive pool prize includes fishing gear, items from Timberfix, a generator, a mini bar fridge, an Esky, swag tent, kayak, tackle boxes and more.
"Every kid will get receive something on the day and every adult in the competition will receive a ticket for their chance to win $10,000 thanks to Optus," Tang said.
"There will be 100 envelopes to choose from, one holds the major prize and all the other ones have a $50 visa card inside, every person who registers in the Gone Fishing competition will go in the draw but if you're an Optus customer you get a better chance," he said.
Tang said he couldn't thank the community enough for their support and he hoped for a big turnout on the weekend.
"Last year we had 300 people and the weather wasn't ideal, but this weekend's predictions are looking good and we're expecting around 500," he said.
There will be a free fly casting clinic, free kids activities, ice cream and a barbecue provided by Wallerawang Public School.
Lines can be in the water from 7.30am until 4pm and fishing licences aren't required.
"The day is about encouraging people to fish, it's good for their mental health and we're also raising money ultimately for a more sustainable and better future for our community and better fishing facilities," Tang said.
To stock the waterway for Gone Fishing,100 large brood stock from Dutton Trout Hatchery were released into the lake on Tuesday, October 15.
Students from OneSchool Global Mount Victoria and Wallerawang Public School helped to release the rainbow trout.
