At the door of the Saffron Kitchen and Café, everyone turned to the shrieks of joy as friends were reunited after 30 years. Ester's friend from Coonabarabran, travelled to attend the opening of Ester Kasepuu's exhibition. An exquisite range of sketches and paintings about Australian Fauna and Flora adorns the walls of Gallery 47. Ester Kasepuu joined a local art group in 2000 and turned her hand to painting. She has been involved in many exhibitions and has been awarded numerous prizes. Animals have played a big part of Ester's life and have become her favourite subject to paint. Three years ago, Ester found herself needing to relocate and decided to move to Kandos. Ester enjoys working with acrylics or watercolours but tries other mediums. The exhibition will be on display in the Saffron Kitchen and Café until 25th November.

Dragon Boat Races at Windemere dam
Dragon boat enthusiasts converged on Windemere dam at Cudgegong Waters Park for an exciting day of racing on Sunday November 3rd. Hosted by Mudgee Dragon boat Club, they were joined by clubs from Canberra, Sydney, Hawkesbury River and Illawarra to compete. Central West races are held alternately between Bathurst, Orange and Mudgee.
The boats are crewed by twenty oarspersons, drummer and sweep to steer the vessel. Dragon boat racing is a popular sport, originating in China. In China they were called 'Snake boats' and had up to 100 paddlers.
The competition comprised mixed, women's and men's categories with 20 heats and three finals. Winners are awarded medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placing. The officials came from Sydney to marshal the race and control the event. Rylstone and Burrendong Volunteer Rescue Squads were on hand to administer first aid in case of injuries. Burrendong VRA provided and operated a motorboat in case of incidences during the races. A barbeque and refreshments were provided by Kandos/Rylstone Rotary Club. Jason Roberts.
Good times at One Life Church
One Life Family Church Kandos, held its monthly 'Good Times' get-together on Sunday evening, October 27, with people coming from as far as Mudgee to attend. While children played in the grounds, adults enjoyed a game of Boules on the lawn while others busily prepared dinner. The event was an opportunity for church members and anyone else who wished to attend, to enjoy fun, fellowship and food outside regular church activities.
Between courses of the evening meal Pastor Steve McKenzie shared a testimony about his life as a Christian and shared from the Bible. The evening featured some uplifting music as everyone enjoyed each other's company. One Life Family Church is a Pentecostal denomination based solely on the Bible. The building is on the corner of Dunn and Noyes streets Kandos, and services are held at 10am every 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays in the month. Also, everyone is invited to the annual Church Christmas party at One Life Family Church Kandos on Sunday November 24. Be sure to mark it on your calendar. Jason Roberts.
Melbourne Cup Luncheon
The annual Melbourne Cup luncheon at "Mungarry Lodge", Mt. Vincent, just out of Ilford, was held on Tuesday November 5. The event was coordinated by Mrs Pat Fraser and her family, and proved to be a very enjoyable day. Attendees were treated to a delicious three course meal and beverages, the regular Melbourne Cup sweep and of course, 'the race that stops a nation'. Local band Bushrock was there for entertainment and there was a competition for best fascinator and hat. "There's about forty, five (people) here, including the band," said Mrs Fraser, "some have come from as far as Meadow Flat." Included was a lucky door prize and raffles, with all proceeds going to Daffodil Cancer Cottage in Bathurst. The event runs annually and costs $25 for the day which also goes to Daffodil Cottage. Mark it on your calendar for next year. It's a great day! Jason Roberts.
