A group of mates from the bush are banding together to bring attention to men's health during the drought and raise a bit of money along the way.
Taking part in Movember, the group of mates call themselves the 'Tallawang Ticklers', in honour of the locality they and their families reside on the north side of Gulgong towards Dunedoo.
Movember aims to raise awareness of men's health issues. With a 2030 goal of reducing the number of men dying prematurely by 25% through education and support for testicular and prostate cancers, depression, suicide and overall mental health.
Sporting an impressive handlebar moustache, Matt Cheetham said the idea to create the group came up after a few beers with mate, Brad Honeysett.
"I suppose me and Brad we're having a few beers at the pub one night and I had a bit of a mo' going and yeah, we both thought it'd be a good idea to do Movember. And a few more beers later we came up with the name the 'Tallawang Ticklers' and that got everyone on board (laughs)," Matt said.
Matt said it's important to look at the lighter side of things, especially in the tough drought conditions the region is facing right now.
"I think with the dry and everything, everyone's feeling a bit down and it just gives us a bit of something fun to do. I definitely notice it, you sort of start talking to people about it and the mental health stuff definitely comes out," Matt said.
"It starts with 'what are you doing it for' and of say why and it gets people talking a bit, which is I think is really, really important. It's a pretty big thing, especially in the bush at the moment,"
"Everyone's sort of struggling so to get people talking about it and have it not be an awkward conversation, I think it's a good thing."
Lachlan Croake, who works for company Milling Stuart at Dunedoo said more and more he's seeing the effects to the mental health of clients living in rural areas.
"I see a fair bit of mental health issues in my job with clients I deal with every day and it's a good thing to be able to talk about having the mo'. You rock up to a client's place and he will question it and it's a good conversation starter to get off the topic of how dry it is or how poor his cattle are," Lachlan said.
It's definitely gotten worse.

"A bit more awareness needs to be about, especially in those smaller communities. You quite often see someone at the pub that'll be down in the dumps about something and it's not even their money that they're dealing with [at work]. It's the death of animals and having to go through the daily routine of feeding poor, hungry stock,"
"It is something that needs to be brought up more occasionally and not just in November. Every month of the year really..."
A nod of approval come from the collected family and friends when asked if things felt different recently with still no rain in sight.
"It's definitely gotten worse," Lachlan said.
"People have gotten better at dealing with it so it's not so much a shock to them but yeah, the problem is still there that it hasn't rained,"
"It's not an overnight thing...it's probably going to be 12 months before people get on their feet and pastures are rejuvenated. It's definitely not an overnight fix and it's not going to go away anytime soon,"
"I feel that there's people probably doing it more tough now than 12 months ago."
To date, the group has raised 2,845 of their $5,000 goal. Something the blokes are confident they can reach thanks to support from businesses and mates in the region.
