Council has revised its Odds and Evens watering system following community backlash.
The system was introduced last week as part of the Level 2 water restrictions.
Formerly, the system was based on days of the week and allowed residents to water on particular days in line with their property number to ensure no one property had more watering days than another.
After the announcement, comments on social media were mostly negative, asking why the system was different compared to other regions like Dubbo.
The Mudgee Guardian received a letter from Gulgong resident, Kitty Eggerking who summed up her feelings about the system.
I am completely dumbfounded that the MWRC can complicate something as simple as an odds-and-evens system. I trust the council will revisit its decision and let common sense prevail. Otherwise I advocate civil disobedience whereby everyone waters on the appropriate odd or even calendar day. Kitty wrote.
Following this feedback, Council moved to adjust the system to allow residents to now water on odd and even dates of the month in accordance with property numbers.
General Manager, Brad Cam said whilst staff introduced the former system for fairness among residents, Council now recognises community preference.
"We've listened to and considered community feedback around Odds and Evens," Mr Cam said.
"We can see the general consensus is to implement a system based on watering on odd or even days depending on your street number. We recognise this may be easier to follow.
"The new system is effective immediately, however we understand residents may take some time understanding the new system and will not be penalised."
Under the new Odds and Evens system, if the street number of your property is odd (eg: 173 Smith Street), you can water on odd dates of the month, alternatively, if the street number of your property is even (eg: 22 Stuart Street), you can water on even dates.
Council says a fridge magnet explaining the system will be delivered to all homes throughout the region in coming weeks.
