The Emergency REDiKit is a prepacked bag of essential items you will need if you have to evacuate your home to save yourself, family and pets.
Similar to the Rural Fire Service and the plan to get to safety the REDiKit is prepared before the disaster happens.
Taking into account the level of panic that is bound to be experienced, now is the time to pack your bag while you have a clear, thinking mind and in a happy place.
Pam Tanner, Regional Emergency Services Officer, Greater Western NSW, travelled from Caroona to address the people, with the assistance of Kayla Thompson from Rylstone's Health One.
Pam handed out an emergency check list you fill in with name address, date of birth, important phone numbers, blood type, Medicare numbers, CRN pension number, medical information and treatment (tablets etc).
Essential items to pack in your car include water, easy to prepare food for two nights, a torch and spare batteries, cash, portable radio, phone chargers, first aid kit, toiletries, pet food and bowls, activities for children and a book or pack of cards.
The REDiKit bag or box you prepare should consider the worst, case scenario where you might be in a safe place without the usual creature comforts.
The items suggested to take a guide. With a little thought the REDiKit could be substantially enlarged. To download the comprehensive check lists, visit www.redcross.org.au.
