The Robert Oatley 3YO Maiden Showcase Plate (1100 metres), although featuring runners from the Mudgee region including Brett Thompson (Gulgong) trained Amy's Shadow who came in third, was dominated by the three-year-old Brooke Somers product.
Aaron Bullock, who rode Budhwar to the finish says it was a good way to kick off the day of racing.
"It's good to be back out here and to start the day off with a win," he said.
"I've got some good rides, I'm looking forward to the day."
A quirky jump out of the barriers led Bullock to briefly question Budhwar's chances until he managed to sort himself into the straight.
"Obviously with the 1100 metres it's jump and run, but the horse actually jumped a bit awkward. But, it sorted itself on the straight really quick and travelled beautifully," he said.
I thought it was going to throw it away but it kicked back and won the race.

"I always have plenty of horse under me and give a good kick, I knew it was going to win or be two or three, then I looked up at the big screen and the winning post and realised.
"It's good for a young horse who is just learning their trade."
The future is looking bright for Budhwar after today's stint with Somers suggesting he will continue to make appearances at race meets.
"Brook was just saying to me it will go out now. It'll go and have a think about things and come back and be really nice," Bullock said.
It's a nice horse going forward, it's definitely going to be even better next time.
