Despite the recent smoky air and hot weather, conditions were perfect for the hundreds that turned up for songs, singing, santa and salutations at Mudgee Showground for the 2019 Rotary Christmas Carols.

President of the Rotary Club of Mudgee Sunrise, Joy Adams said it was a beautiful night.
"It went beautifully it was wonderful and it was - we were very lucky we checked with the fire brigade and it wasn't a total fire ban so we went ahead with the fireworks," Joy said.
Some community members expressed their concern with the planned fireworks show but Joy said everything was done properly.
"We had a fire truck on site in case anything went wrong and the firework provider was a rural business from Parkes. I know there were some people concerned with it but we did the right thing.

"It was just a wonderful evening and it was quite pleasant out there, lucky we didn't have any smoke."
The 'bucket brigade' raised $300 for drought assistance thanks to generous donations from attendees.
Joy noted that the children were thrilled to see Santa, even if he couldn't arrive the way he usually does.
"Santa couldn't arrive via helicopter like he used to, because they're all out there being used to fight fires," Joy said.
The Scouts put games on for the kids and face painting was done by Mudgee Preschool.
