About 75,000 students received their HSC results at 6am on Tuesday, with the ATAR results to be release at 1pm the same day.

Dubbo School of Distance Education student Jacinta Smith, who was also enrolled at Orange High, topped the state in German Beginners.

Canowindra High School Jamie Austin was first in the metals and engineering examination.

While Western Institute of TAFE, Bathurst Campus student, Gemma Garner, was the equal leading student in Human Services examination. Gemma is enrolled at Blayney High.

Forbes High School student Sophie Cowan was declared an all-rounder because she scored a top band result in 10 or more units.

Department of Education Executive Director Dean White praised students featured on achievement lists by NESA (NSW Educational Standards Authority, which administers the HSC).

"We are hearing great stories of achievement from our public schools across the Western NSW," he said.

"There are some exceptional results.

"We are very proud that schools have educated and supported students who have ranked among the best in the state and nurtured every student so they could work towards conquering there on personal goals.

"Our public schools have played an important role in helping students understand that any individual can have diverse goals so success will take many different forms.

"That's why today we congratulate those who have ranked with the state's best and everyone who has fulfilled what they need to take the next step into the future."
