While nominations have started to sprinkle in, there are hopes of somewhere close to 60 names put forward.
Mudgee Sports Council secretary Geoff Robinson says nominating someone for their achievements, which can be made by a member of the public, goes a long way in terms of acknowledgement of hard work and dedication.
"The awards are to make the public aware of the contribution by athletes to their club and community," he said.

"They are the only awards to highlight all sports within Mudgee and surrounds, excluding Gulgong who have their own, whether the athlete's club is a member of the sports council or not.
"While a certain amount of prestige follows for athletes, clubs and schools of the major award winners, the awards were designed to highlight the achievements of all those who represented their club or school at the higher levels.
They bring into focus the training and sacrifice of the athletes with the support of their club, school and parents.

With nominations to come to a close at the end of January and the first week of term 1 for schools, Robinson encourages people to take the time to shine some light on others.
"Please take the time to nominate an individual or team so their achievements during 2019 can be recognised," he said.
If you know someone who has represented in any sport - athlete, administrator, referee, coach or who has contributed to sport for ten years or more - please submit a nomination.
The Mudgee Sports Council sports awards night will be held at Club Mudgee on February 14 from 6.30pm.
