Mudgee's gun cyclist, Ayden Toovey has clocked another achievement to his belt - to be named in the KordoMentha Real Estate men's team for the 2020 Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race.
"It's quite an honour to be selected to represent Australia at the highest level of racing, I'm very much looking forward to the race and atmosphere," the Team BridgeLane rider said.
Having competed in Cadels last year, he's hoping his previous experience will lend a helping hand as he goes up against some of the best riders in the world.
"It was a massive learning curve going up some of the world's best. I look forward to using that experience this year to try and get a result," Ayden added.
The course features a 171kilometre lap along the coastline of Geelong before riders endure several laps of a 'tough' 10km tour through the streets.
"Being a world tour level race, it's the highest categorised race there is," Toovey said.
It would be a huge result if the team won. It's definitely got the potential to be career changing for anyone if they were to pull off a win. It carries quite a high pedigree among the top teams.
- Ayden Toovey
Toovey will have fellow BridgeLane rider Scott Bowden on his side, as well as Carter Turnbull and Rudy Porter, with roles for the four men squad to be decided closer to the event.
"Having Scott on the team will help a lot, he's also done it before so he knows how the race usually plays out. We'll be able to help one another throughout the race and look at the pointy end," Ayden said.
"We won't know the roles of each rider until we get there, but each roll will be selected based on how the rider is travelling and their current form.
"The races leading up to Cadels will be important to prove our worth."
Despite having a busy schedule in the lead up to, Toovey says his undoubtedly 'looking forward to it'.
"Before I get to it [Cadels], I have a busy few weeks starting with Nationals in Ballarat on the 12th then New Zealand from the 15th to 19th before heading up to Geelong for Cadels. A few busy weeks indeed but I look forward to it all," he said.
The 2020 Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race will be held on February 2.
