The festive season is an opportunity for families to spend more time together, to socialise with friends and to take time out from our busy schedules.
Unfortunately, the celebratory season can quickly turn into one of tragedy, with many suffering at the hands of a violent partner or family member.
We know that domestic violence is seasonal, with BOCSAR data revealing that domestic violence assaults increase by 35 per cent in summer compared with winter.
The statistics also tell us that the number of violent offences on New Year's Day is the highest all year.
There are many great events happening around the our area during the festive season, so please be safe, report any unusual or suspicious behaviour to police, and seek support from specialist services for yourself or someone you might be concerned, about, if needed.
