After falling short last season, the red and navy contingent will be pulling out all the stops to ensure the best possible chance at a finals appearance.

With pre-season training to kick off on Wednesday, Wombats first grade captain Tom Dunstan says the buzz has already begun for some.

"Everyone I have talked to has been excited for the season to start, hopefully we will get some good numbers to training so we can really hit the ground running for this season," Dunstan said.

A potential gala day is on the table for March, with hopes of awarding a 'good hit out before the season'.

"Hopefully this year we play more consistent rugby and string together full 80 minute games which will help us go further in the season," Dunstan said.

"Hopefully our scrum is strong again."

It comes as no surprise the Narromine Gorillas are the ones to beat after their outstanding record in previous years, despite falling short in last year's grand final to CSU Bathurst, 30-29.

Dunstan says his side will likely have some new additions which could ultimately aid the Wombats' quest for the crown.

"As with most years, we will have a few players leaving and hopefully some new players and younger boys stepping up to the higher grades," he said.
