Games are six-minute quarters, with one-minute breaks at quarter and three-quarter time, and a three-minute break at half-time.
There are five players on court, but rolling substitutions make for rapid changeovers and there is no limit to the number that can be made.
A new semi-circle is added - think like a three-point line in basketball - beyond which points are doubled if you shoot and score. And all points scored are doubled during a team's 'Power Play' quarter.
"We haven't had it in Mudgee before. So it's exciting to bring something new," Amee Burnicle-Tavita, of the Mudgee Netball Association, said. "And it's a quick game, it's going to be cracking.
"You've got rolling substitutes, whereas with normal netball you have to wait until quarter or half-time, so if you want to tap-in and tap-out at the centre pass you can."
She added that the format is a good introduction to netball - with basketballers set to almost feel at home due to the added semi-circle - for anyone willing to give netball a go.
"It would be be great to get new people into the sport for the normal netball season that haven't played before," she said. "This is a really fun side of it."
And with boys welcome to play as well, another element is added.
As for established netballers - especially those who may be having summertime withdrawals - Burnicle-Tavita said that it's "a chance to get your hands back on a ball"
And the six-week competition is set to nestle in neatly ahead of the regular season that starts around April.
"We think it would be great for their pre-season training and fitness, because it's great to get out there on the court," she said. "And it will make them run a lot more, because you've got two less players, it will encourage them to take long shots and also move around the court better."
With the word out, there's also been interest in running games for those interested who are outside of the 12-18 age group.
Matches will be played at the Glen Willow complex, from March 2 until April 6. Brush up on the rules at playfast5.com.au/rules/
