A MOTORIST caught allegedly driving way above the speed limit told police he was "running late to get to the Bathurst 12 Hour".

The motorist was caught out at 7.58am on Saturday, February 1 on the Great Western Highway at Glanmire, east of Bathurst.
"A 37-year-old male was detected driving a white BMW M4 in a westerly direction at 167km/h in a sign posted 100km/h speed zone," officers attached to the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command said.
"The driver stated he was running late to get to the Bathurst 12 Hour."
