The real estate agency has created the 'PDC Mudgee Community Fund', which is a not-for-profit with a mission of providing financial assistance to the local community.
Every time the agency makes a sale or adds a new property to their management, an amount is added to the fund. PDC says it will host fundraising events through the year and will also accept input from people and businesses that would like to be involved.
The first beneficiary of the fund is the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMHP) which works to educate and connect people, communities and workplaces with appropriate mental health services and programs. They also educate workplaces and communities about mental health and wellbeing and assist during natural disasters.
Directors at PDC, Katherine Croake and Peter Druitt said the idea came about a couple of years ago.
Also making news:
"We want to be able to support - both on an ongoing basis...and being able to respond quickly to an immediate crisis like the Sir Ivan fire when that happened. Obviously it's hard to raise funds in a small amount of time, the idea is for us to have this available to have money in it ready to go when something like that happens or when a local family is - we've had a few local families struck with a bit of tragedy, those sorts of things," Katherine said.
"Our first chosen one is the RAMHP. It will allow Cass to run seminars and workshops to assist people that deal with mental health issues and be able to directly help them and find the most suitable help for them."
"The fund has got two purposes. One is for ongoing support of local programs - like RAMHP - and the other is so we've got a bit of a package of cash sitting there if something like you know, the Sir Ivan bushfire two years ago," Peter said.
"We've got a lump of cash we can say 'we've got some money put aside, we can straight and immediately act on that if there's a crisis or something locally."
The launch of the fund will be held at Roth's Wine Bar on Friday February 21 from 6.30pm.
