On Wednesday, February 19, Federal Member for Calare Andrew Gee presented a group of high school students with the cheque to assist with the completion of the "A Living History" project that Kandos High students will undertake.
The "Living History" project involves students working with the Kandos RSL Sub Branch and community members to document the service of local men and women in conflicts.
By using the information sourced, students will then design displays that the community can use on days of importance or significance.
Head Teacher of Teaching and Learning, Deb Johnston said they want to express their sincere gratefulness to Mr Gee for his visit.
"Numerous grants were applied for to support this activity and it was through the Local Schools Community Grants Fund, a Federal Government initiative, that Kandos High School was finally successful," Ms Johnston said.
"On behalf of our School Community I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Gee for his visit and willingness to participate in an interview on our local radio station KRR 98.7 FM."
The Mudgee Guardian reached out to Andrew Gee's office for comment.
"I was delighted to catch up with the students and teachers from Kandos High School to celebrate the $4,000 grant they received under the Local Schools Community Fund, which is going towards their 'A Living History Project'," Mr Gee said.
"This fantastic project will see students and teachers sit down with our local veterans to hear their stories and record them so they can be shared with the community.
"Recording the experiences of the men and women who served our country is vitally important. Their stories are part of our local history, but also our national history too.
"Our young people will soon be the custodians of our commitment to never forget what those men and women did for us and so it's wonderful to see the students at Kandos High driving this project.
"Our future is in safe hands with our young people leading the way."
