For the third consecutive year in a row, the South Sydney Rabbitohs and St George Illawarra Dragons will prepare for the annual preseason Westfund Charity Shield clash that will be played out at Glen Willow Stadium on February 29.
The derby has more benefits to the region than what meets the eye with Mudgee Dragons club president Sebastian Flack suggesting seeing some of the best the NRL has to offer in the flesh has a rather 'personal' impact on junior rugby league players.
"The exposure to the NRL players they look up to is huge, it gives them a bit of excitement before their season," Flack said.
"This is because instead of just seeing them on television, as they may not be able to get to a game otherwise, they get to meet or see them in real life.
"It turns into a really personal experience for them."
Witnessing the Charity Shield also has its benefits for senior players, offering an inspiring start to the Group 10 season.
"The high quality of football played out on our home field is something we enjoy seeing," Sebastian said.
"It is a major fundraiser for senior and junior league so we are always keen for these games.
We are lucky to have the opportunity before the beginning of our season.
- Mudgee Dragons club president, Sebastian Flack
Flack is predicting an eighth Charity Shield title in a row for Souths with a full-time score of 34-16.
"Other than a few preseason injuries to the Dragons, they have a below average strike rate out here," he said.
"Do yourself a favour and get out there, it only builds more opportunities for the community if everyone gets around it.
"I'm sure any of our supporters and sponsors wouldn't miss a quality NRL game out at Glen Willow."
Any Mudgee Dragons senior league helpers will need to meet at the ground at 3pm. If you are thinking of lending a hand, get in contact with the Mudgee Dragons Facebook page or a club member.
The 2020 Charity Shield clash will be held at Glen Willow Stadium with a 7pm kick-off.
