The planned Regent Theatre auction has been cancelled after a court injunction at the 11th hour put a stop to the proceedings.
It is understood the injunction was sought by the vendor's solicitors.
"Unfortunately there's been a court injunction postponing the auction. At this stage my instructions are to cancel the auction and await further instruction," Auctioneer Andrew Palmer said.
"I can only deeply apologise to you all. It's particularly disappointing..."
The former movie theatre, which has recently been placed on the State Heritage Register, was due to be sold today to at The Property Shop in Mudgee.
"In my 47-year career, I've never seen anything like this," said Hugh Bateman.
After the initial delay, the Mudgee Guardian observed one registered bidder walk out in frustration and it's understood the several people at the auction travelled from as far away as Sydney to attend.
More to come.
