Defendant faces court for choking
A Kandos man was sentenced for choking a woman twice during a domestic incident - the second time pushing his foot to her throat while she was on the ground.
Michael Paul Leslie of Rodgers Street, Kandos, was placed on an three-year Community Corrections Order.
The 34-year-old had been drinking at home throughout the afternoon of Sunday, October 27, 2019, and got into an argument with the victim when she returned at about 5.50pm.
He pushed her to the floor and wrapped her arm around her own throat and pulled it tight. She struggled to breath for about a minute - while scratching and hitting him to attempt to get free - before he let go.
Leslie attempted to get more alcohol and the victim tried to block him. He pushed her to the ground again and put his foot on her throat for about 50 seconds, before letting her back up.
They went into separate rooms and a family member called the police.

Officers attended the Angus Avenue residence at about 6.50pm on Friday, June 21, 2019, also there at the time was a man who'd just bought 2.6g of cannabis from Bell for $50. He admitted there was more of the drug in the bedroom.
A drawer contained 10.5g of cannabis, 2.3g of leaf, and $400 in cash. Police also found unused re-sealable bags, electronic scales, and a ledger of names and numbers.
Bell told them he sold about an ounce a week of the drug, for around $100 profit, and that the ledger listed purchasers.
