On March 21 and 22, Mudgee District Tennis Association in conjunction with Premier Tennis will host an open weekend, so locas and visitors can sample the benefits of tennis and to get the community involved in the future plans for the club.
In 2018, Premier Tennis owners Melanie and Mario Cabral purchased a property in Mudgee with the hopes to one day turn it into a rustic sports focused family retreat centre.
"We purchased a property in Mudgee when we fell in love with the region envisioning a 'tennis in the vines' experience," Premier Tennis director Melanie Cabral said.
"Since we started offering tennis coaching at the club last October, we have been amazed by the overwhelming hospitality of the local people. We dream of the Mudgee district Tennis Club being a tennis hub for the region.
"We can truly say that the Mudgee Region is not only a great place to visit, but a great place to call home."
With the support of he Mudgee District Tennis Club, the pair have their eyes set on renovating the clubhouse to be a place where locals and visitors from all ages can gather around.
And at the event, the community will have the opportunity to express their ideas regarding the clubhouse to students from the Hunter Design School who will be presenting the renovation concepts.
We dream of it being a place that people of all ages want to spend time at before and after their tennis matches and even as a place to catch up with friends where the kids can play and the adults can enjoy a nice cup of coffee.
- Premier Tennis director, Melanie Cabral
"Because we are all at different stages in our lives, we have different needs. We want to make sure we are taking into consideration the needs of the current members and make it the type of club that more people will want to be a part of."
On the Saturday, there will be a Hot Shots tournament for children between 1pm and 4pm, followed by an Adults Tennis Evening from 6pm.
As for Sunday, there will be a Family Tennis Fun event from 1pm until 4pm, and if you don't have a racquet, that's not a problem at all.
