"This is an important milestone for St Matthew's Catholic School because it means we can continue to inspire and challenge our students, today and into the future, with increased open space and technology rich, agile classrooms that support our students to grow and be confident young adults," new school principal, Angela Myles, said.
"St Matthew's undertook a consultation process with the school community and broader stakeholders throughout the pre-lodgement and design process, where we heard detailed feedback from the community about what they would like to see included in the new school.
"The project team has been working hard to finalise the schematic design for the new secondary campus incorporating the feedback we have heard to date. Utilising this feedback, we are able to bring our school and broader community along on the process."
Pending approval by the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, construction for the project is anticipated to commence soon after and take approximately two years to complete.
The proposed new secondary campus - announced in 2018 - is set to span nine hectares at Broadhead Road. And include a chapel, sporting capacities, a multipurpose hall, state of the art, music, and drama facilities, as well as purpose-built spaces for vocational education and training (VET), and dedicated hospitality rooms with café facilities.
The new spaces are designed to provide a flexible and unique schooling environment, with an opportunity to expand current subjects such as primary industries, agriculture and construction.
The junior school will remain at its current site at Lewis Street for the present time.
In the interests of public health and safety, webinars will be hosted rather than face-to-face sessions, so that the community can find out more about the project and ask questions. They will be held; Saturday, April 4, at 9.30-10.15am and 10.30-11.15am; and Wednesday, April 8, at 5-5.45pm and 6-6.45pm.
The webinars are free but you must register at stmatthewscommunitywebinar.eventbrite.com.au. Students of the school will be invited to attend a separate webinar.
