All tennis activities were suspended from March 23 as a result of the coronavirus, however the eased restrictions that will be put in place this Friday is music to the ears of Mudgee Tennis and it's athletes with private lessons to return on May 18.
During the eight weeks of inactivity, Premier Tennis made the decision to create a YouTube channel to upload regular videos with tips and skill based activities to keep students working on their tennis, which was shared with the Mudgee District Tennis Club's Facebook page.
"I had been resisting it for a while and we just thought, we need to keep in contact with the kids and parents so we decided to get started," Mario Cabral, Mudgee District Tennis Club's head of coaching, said.
"We took the time to really invest and prepare. We've probably got about 10 or 12 videos and a lot of them have things you can do at home, mainly technique based.
"We have had an overwhelming response to our training videos. We have almost doubled in our Instagram followers and have had great feedback.
"The benefit is to keep our tennis players learning and developing their skills even when they are at home."
Cabral and his team plan on establishing a development curriculum, Foundational Pillars (technique, strategy, nutrition, physical fitness, mental fitness) that will provide necessary education for young athletes who are just getting started or plan on having a career in tennis.
It'll be a really educational journey for the kids. We believe we are at the beginning stages of providing education to our players and also for our parents.

"Skills can be developed on court and off court. This is why understanding the skills needed to succeed is so important."
