The perfect accompaniment to an afternoon walk, the Gulgong Scarecrow Stroll is coming back in 2020.
Previously a part of the Henry Lawson Festival, Gulgong Arts Council has decided to hold the event again, just outside of the festival.
The scarecrows will be showcased from 25th May to 7th June 2020. The scare crows will be displayed in house yards, business premises or rural properties of entrants and sponsors.
Gulgong Art's Council spokeswoman Toni Morrison said "We have revamped the promotion and process to comply with social distancing and will encourage families and businesses to get involved and help our town to enjoy some fun and artistic entertainment".
"Although we are disappointed our annual Art Competition and the June Long Weekend festivities have been cancelled this year, we are encouraging as many of the town folk to get involved and help lighten their days as we get through this pandemic.
The Scarecrow Stroll will be run as a home and business based promotion and all entries and information will be sourced electronically.
There will be a range of classes including traditional, most colourful and most humorous scarecrows in both family and business sections. With IGA Vouchers provided by Yancoal Moolarben in each section of the competition.
Gulgong Arts Council said are very grateful for the support again this year from Yancoal Moolarben for helping to provide some fun and colour to the town and community.
Matthew Croake from Yancoal Moolarben Coal said "Yancoal Moolarben Coal are committed to making a genuine positive difference in the communities in which it operates. Support of events like the Gulgong Scarecrow Stroll build positive and lasting social benefits to the Gulgong Community and hopefully provide a distraction to the current pandemic stresses the community is facing."
The Arts Council are also planning to have a colouring competition and hopefully create a google tour. It could then be shared as a 'Walk among the scarecrows' for children and adults to follow the progress of our community scare crows. Residents are encouraged our scarecrow builders to generate progress photos and posts to provide lots of community involvement as the scare crows evolve.
Entries should be received by 23rd May and there is no entry fee this year. All entries to be generated electronically to Gulgong Arts Council for the judging which will take place on June 4-6.
With certain restrictions on judging and isolation they will limit main entries to Gulgong township or the outskirts of town only, however they are happy for those artistic scare-crowers who are further afield to enter a remote section which will be considered electronically.
All funds received from the promotion will again this year be donated to Gulgong's aged Care facility Wenonah Lodge.
