A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said that the man's arm was caught in a piece of machinery and injured as a result.

At about 11am on Sunday morning, police and ambulance attended the scene and the man was taken by road to a helicopter and then the man was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital by Toll Ambulance Rescue 207.

A spokesperson for Toll said the call was to provide 'immediate and critical care for a male patient'.

Yancoal provided a statement to the Mudgee Guardian which can read in full below:

Yancoal regrets to advise of an incident that occurred on 17 May 2020 in which an employee was injured.

Following the incident, the injured employee was stabilised by ambulance services before being airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital to receive further medical care and attention.

Relevant Government authorities were informed and Yancoal is currently assisting with investigations.

A Glencore spokesperson confirmed to the Mudgee Guardian that they received a request on Saturday to allow a helicopter to land at the Ulan Mine complex to facilitate transport of an injured worker.

They were subsequently advised, however, that the site had been contacted by mistake.

Police confirmed that the incident is being investigated by Workcover.
