In April, Timothy William Benjamin Meredith, of Winbourne Street, Mudgee, was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle, for his alleged part in the crash at Galambine on January 20. These matters were adjourned until Wednesday, August 19, 2020, for Director of Public Prosecutions to enter proceedings.
Furthermore, in late March, Meredith was charged with 'Do act intending to pervert the course of justice', use offensive weapon, and intimidation, following an alleged incident on the afternoon of March 6 at Kandos. This matter was adjourned until Wednesday, July 8, 2020, to see if DPP will elect to prosecute, otherwise it will also go to August.
On Monday, May 4, 2020, Meredith was charged with 'Destroy or damage property'. At about 7pm, he knocked on the victim's door and was told he was "no longer welcome here" and as he walked away he slammed the yard gate, causing the latch to snap.
The victim reported the matter to police and said that Meredith smelt of alcohol, was slurring his words, and said "nobody wants me around anymore". When questioned by police he admitted his frustration.
His legal aid solicitor, Toshi Weller-Wong, said "the driving matters have resulted in some backlash in town".
The incident was a breach of Meredith's bail, specifically the condition that he be of good behaviour, and a Detention Application was brought. However, Magistrate Alexander Mijovich chose to take no action on the application, because "it wasn't for driving or approaching a witness".
Although, when fining the defendant $250, he warned, "with what you're facing in the coming months you've got bigger issues - you're better off leaving the gate open and walking away".
