At their May meeting, Council approved the temporary suspension of alcohol-free zone Market Street and Church Street, for two nominated dates - September 26 and November 21. The latter to account for the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic.
And after careful consideration and consultation with its key stakeholders, Council has made the decision to move forward with the tentative November date. Which is subject to State and Federal Government health orders and permissible crowd numbers for major events.
General manager, Brad Cam, said whilst it is disappointing to cancel the September date, Council remains hopeful of proceeding with its "flagship event" later this year.
"Flavours of Mudgee is traditionally held on the last weekend of September, however given the current restrictions in place it was an impossibility to deliver our flagship event in September," he said.
"We've made this decision as early as possible in consideration of those travelling to Mudgee for the event, as well as our stallholders, suppliers and our community.
"Although we've made the decision to reschedule, the November date remains tentative and we're in the hands of the State and Federal Governments as to what will be permitted for major events.
"The restrictions in place will determine whether the event can proceed. The health and safety of our community is our priority and will shape any decisions we make in relation to the event."
Council's Events Team continues to monitor directions from State and Federal Governments and is working closely with key stakeholders on the November date.
The event, which last year hosted over 12,000 people, sees the Mudgee CBD filled to give visitors and locals the chance to experience local wine, food and produce in a street party atmosphere.
