Kevin and Jan met in 1959 and by 1961 were married. Kevin had taught in Coolah before taking up a post as wood and metal teacher at the Gulgong High School in 1962. This post was closely followed by the birth of their four daughters Caryn, Kim, Michelle and Meg in five and a half years. They went on to have nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
For many years on a Saturday morning Kevin would be at the Gulgong Tennis Courts teaching tennis to the children who would come along.
20 years ago Kevin and Jan took over the running of the Henry Lawson Centre as well as Chairing the Henry Lawson Society and the Henry Lawson Festival Weekend Committees. Kevin was still very active at the Henry Lawson Centre right up until last Saturday when he worked his shift at the centre.
During the shift it had been very busy with many visitors and he said to Jan "Gee we have worked hard today" Jan said she had put her arms around him and said "yes you did work hard". Jan said later I am so glad I showed him that last bit of affection.
For many years Kevin and Jan have been involved in the Pensioner's Association, the Gulgong Gofers and the Gulgong Chamber of Commerce.
In 2018 Kevin was nominated as The Citizen of the year. The same year he and Jan won the award for Volunteer of the year. Kevin was so proud of this award.
The highlight of Kevin's year last year was a visit to the Henry Lawson Centre by Gladys Berejiklian. Kevin in his true form was telling her some of his jokes and it was quite obvious Gladys enjoyed his humour.
In the last few years his health had been compromised when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Even with his health problems he would not stop and all credit must be given to his devoted wife Jan who cared for him and took him everyone.
Jan said she is most grateful for the quick response from the Ambulance men Peter Doran and Alen Lucic and also Senior Police Constable Dan Fielding who stayed with her to make sure she was going to be alright.
Kevin will be missed in Gulgong, his quick wit and his sense of humour will be remembered for a very long time.
