After 19 weeks off on a spell, Brett Thomson-trained Clever Missile has been a testament to just how well the Gulgong stables are fairing in recent times.
The four-year-old gelding ran first at Tamworth on Monday, beating favourite, Hyperlink (Kris Lees) by half a length, leaving the rest trailing by four and a half lengths.
"Greg Ryan rode him and got him in a beautiful spot. He made a kick on the turn and got away from them," Thompson said.
"Kris Lees' horse tried to run him down but he couldn't."
Clever Missile will be back at again on Monday, July 20 at Wellington and Thompson says he's got a fair chance.
"He's been really good, it's only his fourth or fifth race back and he's been placing high," Brett said.
He's a lightly raced horse on the improve, he's getting better every time he goes down.

"He'll go good at Wellington. Ronnie (Simpson) will be back on him, he's going to be a really good chance, it'll be difficult to beat him."
Thompson has a "couple of good chances" running on Friday, July 17 at Dubbo with Godfrey Park (NZ), Denace and Slatey Bay all giving it a shot.
"The stable is firing so it's a good time to follow them," Thompson said.
We've had eight winners in the last 50 runners, and nine seconds and nine thirds.
"Everybody at home is doing a great job and the horses are running really well."
Thompson's first Dubbo runner will jump from barrier eight in the Western Plains Security Maiden Handicap (1620 metres) at 1.50pm.
