Mudgee Lawn Bowls took to social media to pay their respects on July 22, 2020.
Malcolm, the beloved husband of Margaret, father and father in-law of Antony, Adrienne and Rob, and Wendy and Andrew, pop to Harry, George, Jack, Chloe and Sam, and brother to Don and Elaine, was greatly cherished by the Mid-Western community.
"It is with sadness that I announce that Malcolm Roth has passed away. We do extend our deepest sympathy to Margaret and family," Mudgee Lawn Bowls' post on Facebook read.
"RIP Malcolm, you left us with so many unforgettable memories. In the words of Malcolm, 'unbelievable'."
A tribute by Ken Sampson
Malcolm William Roth was a member of the Mudgee Bowling Club for over 50 years and his love of the game and his personality when around a bowling club made Malcolm a very popular bowler with members and visitors.
Malcolm won many club, district and zone events, and was a valued member in all bowls teams.
He held the positions of Patron, and President of the Mudgee Bowling Club, President of the district and President of zone 5.
He will sadly be missed by all bowlers who knew him.
Malcolm William Roth you were unbelievable.
Tribute by Brody Crawford
Owner of Smokin Bro and Co, Brody Crawford shared his thoughts on Malcolm's passing, recalling his time as a winemaker.
Farewell old mate. You were a character, salt of the earth formed right here in Mudgee. Tough old farmer, like most of the old blood you would work sunup to sundown. I have missed your weekly visits to the winery since I left and I know Blackie will miss them forever onward.
You would always take your muddy work boots off before entering the winery and no matter how many times i told you not to worry you'd still take them off next visit! The Mudgee wine community is at a massive loss without your humour, knowledge and chatty nature.
R.I.P Mr Malcolm Roth
Tribute by the Bucholtz family
On behalf of Aunt Lavina McKinney (Bucholtz) and all the Bucholtz family, l wish to convey sincere condolences to the Roth family and the Mudgee/ Eurunderee community.
The Roth and Bucholtz families were neighbours at Eurunderee for more than sixty years.
Both families took up land and pioneered grape growing and winemaking in the Pipeclay Valley in the early 1850s.
There has been a strong bond between the two families ever since.
In recent times, Malcolm has been owner and sensitive custodian of "Fredericksburg", later, "Westcourt", vineyards and cellars.
Many members of the Roth and Bucholtz families commenced their education together at the Eurunderee School.
Vale Malcolm Roth.
