Driver mid-range during crash into front yards
Gregory Riley of King Street, Mudgee, was fined $1,100 and disqualified for three months, which will be followed by a 12-month interlock period.
At about 5am on Saturday, March 21, 2020, the 29-year-old was driving south along Douro Street, Mudgee, towards the T-intersection with Madeira Road. His vehicle was travelling too fast and went past the give-way sign, across Madeira Road and crashed into the front yards of two nearby houses.
It'd gone through a fence and came to rest against a tree. The proximity to the font bedroom of one of the houses was noted.
Riley exited the vehicle and walked away, east along Madeira Road. The police were called and found him near Cudgegong Valley Public School, getting into a friend's car.
A roadside test was positive for alcohol and he was taken to Mudgee Police Station where a breath analysis of 0.140 was recorded. When admitting to the crash, Riley told officers "I had no brakes", however skid marks were noted among the extensive damage caused.
'Do I have to do it? I know I'll fail'
Andrew Marc Laszlo Lorant was fined $330 and disqualified for six months, for the charge of 'Drive vehicle illicit drug present in blood, etc'.
At about 4am on Sunday, December 22, 2019, the 31-year-old was stopped for random breath and drug testing in Horatio Street, Mudgee. The roadside oral fluid test detected methamphetamine.
He was arrested and taken to Mudgee Police Station where a second positive result was recorded, which was confirmed by laboratory analysis. Officers noted that when asked to provide one of the samples, Lorant said, "do I have to do it, I know I'll fail, I used yesterday".

'Early hours all that caught police attention'
Jonathan Rowcroft of Bellevue Road, Mudgee, was fined $440 and disqualified for three months, which will be followed by a 12-month interlock period.
At about 12.30am on Saturday, May 30, 2020, police were patrolling Church Street, Mudgee, when they spotted the 25-year-old's vehicle. They followed and stopped him in Inglis Street.
A roadside test was positive for alcohol and he was taken to Mudgee Police Station, where a breath analysis of 0.118 was recorded. Rowcroft admitted he'd been drinking throughout the previous day and estimated he'd had about 12 standard drinks, but had ceased a number of hours prior to being stopped.
Magistrate David Day told the defendant - who represented himself in court - "I note there was nothing about your driving that brought you to police attention, beyond that it was the early hours of Saturday".
Two drugs, two offences in two months
Troy William Devenish of Old Reservoir Road, Mudgee, was fined a total of $220 and disqualified for six months, for two counts of drug driving.
At about 8.35pm on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, the 36-year-old was stopped by police for random breath and drug testing in Nicholson Street, Mudgee. He returned positive results for methamphetamine and cannabis, which admitted to using that day.
Prior to that, Devenish had been detected driving on the Sydney Road with the same drugs in his system on Wednesday, March 18. When representing himself in court, the defendant said he'd resumed his drug use at the time of the offences due to a tough patch in his life.
