The case was confirmed on Friday by health officials and it is linked to a known COVID-19 cluster in Sydney.

Western NSW Local Health District chief executive Scott McLachlan said while this person is currently in Orange, they do not live there permanently.

"There is no need for concern in the Orange community," he said.

"The Public Health Unit has contacted all close contacts.

"They have been provided with Public Health information which includes to be tested for COVID-19 and remain in isolation for 14 days.

"If you have not been contacted by the Public Health Unit you have not been identified as a close contact."

Australian Community Media became aware of this new virus case first thing on Friday and despite repeated calls to the LHD it did not officially confirm the case until 1.30pm.

ACM also asked the LHD for details of the person's previous activities in Central West, but health authorities are yet to respond.

Following this latest case, the LHD has reopened the Orange Fever Clinic at the Orange Health Service.

It will be operational from 10am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday and 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

In addition, a drive through testing clinc has been set up at the Orange Showground.

Entry is via Margaret Street, from 10am to 5pm and it will be operational from Saturday.

The service is free of charge, and you don't need a referral or appointment to attend.

"It's a drive through service so you won't have to leave your car," Mr McLachlan said.

"Our staff will be able to come to you, do a short assessment and get your details, and then do a swab from the back of your throat and then the back of your nose.

"The tests are then sent away for analysis which normally takes about 48 hours. If your test is negative, you can request to get those results by text message even faster."

Mr McLachlan said the LHD's message was very simple - if you have any symptoms, even mild ones, arrange to be tested.

"We all need to keep our family and loved ones safe and to help stop the spread of COVID-19," she said.

Prior to this there have already been 12 coronavirus cases among Orange residents, including a resident returning from overseas in May who was put in hotel quarantine and another in June.

This is the first case in the Western NSW Local Health District for more than three months, following the last active case on April 18.
