A MAN has appeared before Mudgee Local Court charged with the murder of Michelle Bright, whose body was located near Gulgong more than 21 years ago.

Following extensive investigations, detectives arrested 53-year-old Craig Henry Rumsby near Mudgee about 9.30pm on Tuesday, August 11.
He was taken to Mudgee Police Station and charged with murder, two counts of inflict actual bodily harm with intent to have sexual intercourse with victim and attempt choke/strangle with intent to commit indictable offence.
Mr Rumsby was refused bail and appeared before Mudgee Local Court on Wednesday.
During his brief court appearance Mr Rumsby didn't enter a plea, nor apply for bail, which was formally refused.
Mr Rumsby is scheduled to appear before Mudgee Local Court again on Wednesday, August 19.

Michelle Bright, then aged 17, was last seen alive on Saturday, February, 27 1999, when a friend dropped her off at Herbert Street in Gulgong, after a birthday party.
Three days later, her body was located in long grass by the side of Barneys Reef Road.
During the 2009 Coronial Inquest, the coroner recommended the reward be increased to $500,000 - the highest at the time - which was granted by the NSW Government.
Following a review under the Homicide Squad's new processes, detectives from the Unsolved Homicide Unit commenced inquiries. To assist with their inquiries, the NSW Government increased the reward for information to $1 million on Monday.
