The corner to exit the drive through, at Church Street, will also be widened to increase the available turning circle for vehicles. And a second drive-through coffee machine will be added.
In order to convert to dual lane, a concrete island will be built further down - which will take two parking spaces - and provide the facilities to take two orders at a time. Before merging and going around the building.
Licensee Daniel Zammit said, "reinvestments play an important part in McDonald's efforts to give our customers the best possible Macca's experience". And that particularly during COVID, there's been a noticeable shift towards the drive-through and with people likely to stay in that habit it's best to keep up with demand.
"It's all about building the capacity and ensuring that the customer service is first and foremost," he said.
"Especially during COVID, we've seen a huge change with the customer flow and we need to make sure we cater to that. The drive-through percentage of sales has close to doubled from what it was.

"And that's what this reinvesting is all around. We've got two coffee machines here and we'll be adding a third one to cater for that demand."
He added that with increasing that capacity, they'll be recruiting more staff - day, morning, weekend and casual. As well as delivery drivers.
"We've been doing deliveries since April this year, which we kicked off because of COVID, and it's going to remain within the business. It's really grown and taken off quite considerably," he said.
"You've got to adapt, I never thought we would've done it but as soon as COVID hit we knew we had to try things and move with the times - and that's what we've done."
Mr Zammit said that during the works the restaurant will still be trading in their now-normal trading hours - recently extended to 11pm - although some minor drive-though closures may occur.
"During the next two weeks of construction there may be some times where drive-through might not be operational for a short period, but those are going to be limited. So we ask for our customers' understanding and thank them for their support," he said.
