Their quest for the title opened with a 33-14 victory over the Parkes Boars, which would lead the side to go on and win three more times including against Parkes once again last weekend (39-12).
This week meeting with the Wellington Redbacks for the second time this season after handing down a 62-0 thrashing in round two, Wombats' Helen Blackmore says the squad are remaining humble about their chances.
"You never go into a game with expectations or underestimating your opposition, you always prepare for a competitive game. If we stick to the game plan the results will follow," she said.
"Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the season was a bit disjointed to start with and we were light on numbers but once confirmed and we knew it was going ahead the girls turned up and things started looking very positive.
"We have always been strong contenders since we joined the women's Central West competition. We made the grand final in our inaugural year, and the semi finals every other year since so hopefully we will be able to back that up again this season."
Their only loss so far in 2020 against CSU, 14-5, was the hardest game for a number of reasons, Blackmore says.
"The game against Bathurst CSU was clouded by injuries and stoppages. Unfortunately, the game was called short so a player could be treated on the field. It was a fair call to be made but the last minutes of the game could have allowed us to have a very different result," she said.
This weekend's match against Wellington will kick-off at 12.45pm at the Wellington Junior Rugby Union Club, with their final game against CSU on September 19 who will be at home ahead of the finals.
"We have a wonderful group of ladies that have come together to form a strong team that support each other in all areas of the game. Our support plays are very strong which is shown by our score line. The enthusiasm and dedication from the girls is certainly a strength that is to be admired," Blackmore said.
