The seasons are changing, the weather is warming up and people are ready to get outside and be active, which places tennis firmly the center of a perfect sporting storm for Mudgee Tennis Club, which is raring to go with the current term coming to a close and a new one on the horizon.
Head of coaching for Mudgee District Tennis Club, Mario Cabral who began his tenure in October last year, said they're very fortunate that tennis isn't a contact sport and is relatively COVID-friendly.
"I think we've been quite fortunate because a lot of other sports like contact sports haven't been able to get up and going," Mr Cabral said.
"Because you've got kids and adults on the other side of the court, we've got everybody making sure that they're sanitized. All of it. But yeah, obviously there's other things that we're not able to do because of the things that are happening in the state and nationally."
The sport, one of many in the region, was hit hard when COVID restrictions were put in place. Tennis terms align with school terms in the region and Mario said they're hoping to ramp back up as the weather gets warmer.
"We're up and going again after we had to shut down for a little while. So we're excited that things are open," Mr Cabral said.
"In the next couple of weeks we'll keep announcing what's coming up. So it will all be on the mudgeetennis.com website. And then obviously our Instagram, all the upcoming news is there [too]."
Mario was mum when it came to future events but said he has some exciting things planned, assuming the spread of COVID stays at bay.
"We've got a lot of activities planned and tours and things that we can use to reach players around the state as as it happens, but right now, there's nothing we could really do," Mr Cabral said.
"So were thinking of running some really fun tournaments and all that, but we just have to kind of hold back on all the different plans that we've had. So it's been fun planning, but at the same time it's a little bit of a bummer we can't get out there and do it right away."
