As part of the redevelopment of the Mudgee Hospital which served the community for more than 60 years, the building was meticulously photographed inside and out and collated into a series of books which are now available to view at the Mudgee Museum, the Council building and Mudgee Library on Market Street.

Barry Wells, President of Historical Society said the photos will serve as an important record of the hospital as it was today for residents of the future.

"These records now in our archives here, they'll be here forever. So if anyone wants to refer back in years to come, they can be used by researchers as reference and it's really an asset to have them in our archives here," he said.

"We've got a lot of the history in the region here, even the old hospitals that were around the town, so that continues the hospital theme."

"The record of the hospital like it is now, everyone knows about it. But in 100 years time there'll be no one around that remembers the old hospital or how it was or anything like that. That's' where good records are worth their weight in gold."

Julia Conchie, Publicity officer for Mudgee Health Council said it was important to keep records like this of local landmarks.

"From what I understand the photos become a record for the town, for keeping the history going and they needed to do it for the planning process [of the new hospital] so everything was recorded of what was already there and to redevelop," she said.

"It's all there now as a beautiful record as they start to bring down the old hospital now that the new one is all in place."
