September saw the second annual fishing trip for nine keen anglers from Mudgee Police Station to compete in "The Danny" a fishing competition which was created in memory of a close friend to a number of officers from Mudgee Police Station who passed away in 2019.
In the news:
The group were off to South West Rocks where Matthew Cowden last year landed the now legendary Kingfish off Gap Beach at 24.5 kilograms. The trip saw the group relaxing down at Gap Beach where several bream and whiting were caught in the afternoon.
Unfortunately one competitor Andrew Hamilton was struck down with a severe case of sea sickness which resulted in him from withdrawing from the competition.
The group got stuck into a mixed bag of snapper, perch, trevally thanks to the help of Andrew's "berly".
The third day was an action packed day of river fishing with the competition still up for grabs. A great haul of bream, whiting, flathead and even a Jewfish was recorded to be caught under the bridge.
The eventual winner James Ray was crowned the winner of the 2020 competition. "The Danny" trophy currently stands proud in the Mudgee Police Station and is a trophy made from the Kingfish.
