Dawn passed away on September 15 at Gulgong MPS, the details of which are the subject of a report that has been called for by NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard in the wake of Mrs Trevitt's death.
Speaking with the Mudgee Guardian, her daughter Hayley Olivares described her mum as a dedicated teacher, mother and carer.
"My mum was very energetic and very committed," Hayley said.
"For her entire professional life she dedicated a lot of time, effort and energy to providing opportunities for me. She was a very devoted wife, my dad had a stroke in 2012 which left him with significant physical impairment. And since that time she has cared for him very selflessly and retired effective immediately when he got sick.
Hayley said her mum was the type of person to put people before herself and was very active in the Gulgong community.
"From the time she was a school teacher - she used to tutor kids - even after school, four days a week our house was full of students coming and going right up to sort of 6.30 at night, always trying to help those that were struggling in the system, just to give them better opportunities.
"And that was reinforced to us as a family, which was so heartwarming from the community when we lost her that we had all of these beautiful tributes flowing in about how much of a difference she made to individuals lives who are now adults, and how she was the one that believed in them when they felt like nobody else did.
"I feel like, I've lost a beautiful, generous, caring mother. I'm devastated that my... three girls, are not going to grow up and have the same memories of her that I have."
"I always will remember her as someone who put everyone else ahead of herself.
"She will be dearly missed."
Hayley also shared a hand-written letter she received from a former student of her mother's during her time at Gulgong Public School.
'Our deepest condolences on the loss of your loved one,' the letter read.
'Dawn was truly one in a million with her ambitious attitude, helping everyone that stepped foot into her classroom succeed no matter their ability. She was always there with her compassionate, hard-working attitude.
'It's safe to say throughout our primary school years that Mrs T was a mother to us. Always there to lend a helping hand when you're struggling. She helped shape our futures with the tutoring lessons that will never be forgotten, and teaching us to strive for our full potential.
'Throughout all our adventures, we will forever cherish the times spent with Mrs T. We send loving thoughts to you as you say goodbye and move forward.
'Holding memories always in your heart.'
Gulgong community pays tribute
Gulgong Public School posted a tribute on social media remembering Dawn - or Mrs T as some students called her - as a rare talent.
'Dawn Trevitt was a genuine, caring, talented woman who gave decades of her life to the students of Gulgong Public School,' they wrote.
'Mrs Trevitt was an amazing teacher. Many Gulgong locals would call her their all time favourite. She had a unique way of getting the best from her students and made every single student feel capable and worthy.
'Dawn shared her knowledge and philosophies with many a beginning teacher and quite literally got many of us through.
'Dawnie to her colleagues, and Mrs T to the kids, will be remembered for her quick wit, her cheeky laugh, her sense of fairness and her dedication to 'her kids'. She was and always will be a massive part of Gulgong Public School.'
