The weather events are associated with cooler weather, more rain, an increased chance of flooding and tropical cyclones.
With the last La Nina - which occurred from 2010 to 2012 - leading to one of Australia's wettest two-year periods on record.
However, the bureau said it's not expected to be so severe this time around, although it is likely to be of moderate strength.
While the Mudgee Airport weather station did record a soaking over the weekend, it paled in comparison to some locations throughout the state.
The two-day totals were impressive for many areas including Gunnedah 92mm, Quirindi 91mm, Moree 45mm, Walgett 51mm, Cowra 47mm, Tumbarumba 89mm, and West Wyalong 40mm.
