Nowra is getting its first escalator.
To be fair, I have not personally checked every building in Nowra on NSW's South Coast. There may be a hidden, historic or mystery escalator waiting to be found.
But to the best of my knowledge, an escalator in the new South Nowra Bunnings Warehouse will be the town's first.
To those reading this from Sydney, Canberra or Melbourne that news may be underwhelming, but it's been a source of endless fascination for staff at the South Coast Register this week.
Another endless source of speculation has been the US election.
While they might not seem related, the escalator and the election are symbolic of the two worlds many of us have lived in since the start of the pandemic - the immediate world might be smaller, but it's also grown too.
Working from home, I no longer have little daily interactions over a cup of coffee or an office divider. Social gatherings are less frequent and smaller, and time with loved ones is precious.
But the digital age has kept us plugged in to international affairs in a way that was scarcely imaginable a decade ago.
Sure, social media was a thing - but it wasn't the all singing, all dancing beast of today. Mostly, it was third person status updates - anyone remember?
Wherever you are, and however your pandemic is going, I hope your immediate world is full of enough warmth and care to support you through the turbulence of current affairs.
And I hope you have something on the horizon as exciting as an escalator.
