"I think people have been waiting for it."
A dream for some, a need for others, The Book Nest Mudgee is in full swing, bringing back the excitement and adventure a bookshop offers the local community.
From discussions during last summer to an opening on November 14, Sam Paine, Alison Nipperess, Matthew Nipperess and Portia Lindsay are making a dream come true.
"We had a lot of people coming through and stopping to smell the scent of timber shelves and new books. Everyone had missed that smell and having a bookshop around," Sam Paine said.
"It's been nice seeing just how excited people are to see a bookshop come back. I think people have been waiting for it and it has its place."
Having previously worked in a bookstore, Portia had hopes of one day owning her own, a desire mimicked by Alison - "I think everyone who has worked in a bookshop wants to have their own one day," Paine said.
Located at 90 Church Street, the store stocks a variety of reading sections including general, kids, graphic novel and second hand.
"A bookshop is sort of a risky business perhaps but we felt like people here miss them and people everywhere like the experience of going. I normally order my books online but to physically buy them is a completely different thing," Sam said.
"You walk into the bookshop and you can browse, be surprised by something you weren't looking for, you can get advice on what books are out there and what kind of books you might be interested in reading next.
"I think as we learn what our readers are looking for, we will get even better at meeting Mudgee's needs."
In the future, The Book Nest Mudgee will look to host various events including, but not limited to, launches with local authors, literary gatherings, and "hopefully some visits from authors in the future, we've got plans to use the space for lots of different things".
The Book Nest Mudgee is open weekdays (except Tuesday) from 9am, Saturday's 9-4 and Sunday's from 10-2.
