Probationary constables Ryan Gregory and Nicholas Femia had their first day on the force on Monday, after graduating from the academy in Goulburn on Friday.

While the pair are new to the area, the new probationary constables will work in tandem with more experienced officers for their first year of policing within the community.

For probationary constable Femia, being a police officer was something he had wanted to do since he was a young child.

"It keeps you on your heels every day, keeps you excited, and the fact that you get to help people every day, that's a good thing," he said.

"I also like the fact you have to have a lot of self resilience and self discipline to do this type of job, and the organisation has a high standard you've got to live up to every day."

Probationary constable Gregory said it's the diversity of the role, which inspired him to embark on his career as a police officer.

"Doing something new every day is exciting. My cousin is also a cop and he's been a cop for a while so that also inspires me," he said.

"I've heard nothing but good things about policing in Dubbo especially, so I'm really excited to get cracking."

For both probationary constables starting as a police officer has meant moving from the city.

"I feel like its the best thing for my career, I'll have the opportunity to learn a lot more out here rather than in the city and metro areas," probationary constable Femia said.

The first day was an induction, but from day two, they'll be hitting the streets paired with a senior officer as they begin their on-the-job training.

Orana Mid-Western Police District Inspector Natalie Antaw welcomed the two new officers.

"It's always good to have new recruits come out to us from the academy," she said.

"We've got a great district here where we'll be able to give them a really good grounding in operational policing and policing in general."

A total of 189 students attested from the police academy.
