On Sunday, December 6, golfers embarked on Mudgee's green as part of Pink Up celebrations that featured a four ambrose format which was followed by an auction later on in the day.
Pink Up Mudgee founder Hugh Bateman said to raise just over $16,000 in one day was simply outstanding given the year that has had an impact so many.
"We had 22 teams, a little bit less than last year but the overall result was double the donations and income from last year," Hugh said.
"It's absolutely incredible. I can honestly say that we are going to be just over seventy thousand dollars for the 2020 Pink Up Mudgee campaign which is absolutely amazing given the year we've all experienced.
"The very fact that both businesses and the community have supported Pink Up so tremendously is just fantastic."
With the increasing rate of people being diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia, "it's impreviate that every dollar this year is put in so that there is every chance the numbers of breast care nurses can prevail," Hugh said.
"When we began the Pink Up Mudgee program, 1 in 9 people were diagnosed with breast cancer and now it's 1 in 7. Fortunately 95 per cent of people who contract the disease are able to be cured, however, there's still a great need for support."
Pink Up Mudgee will go ahead in 2021 for its fifth consecutive year with much of Australia now expected to participate in their own take on the fundraising effort.
"It's Australia wide now, I'm really proud that it started in Mudgee in 2016 and now it's a national event, every state in Australia is involved," Hugh said.
"We have the most incredible community, you would go a long, long way to find a community like the Mudgee region."
