Having occupied the position of treasurer for a number of years, Hands has taken on the role of club president.

Receiving the torch from Luke Humphreys who held the top position for multiple years following a six-year innings from Greg Bartrim, Hands says he is looking forward to furthering his involvement with the Wombats.

"It's been good to be involved in such a great club, I'm more than happy to be president, it's an honour," he said.

"I'm not nervous about the role, more excited. The club is very supportive of anybody who takes on a new position so I feel like I've already been supported a great deal.

"I would like to thank Luke [Humphreys] for being president for the last three years, he's done a fantastic job in my opinion and I look forward to working with him as one of my committee members."

While claiming a title is an obvious goal for the Wombats this season, which will kick-off on April 10, Hands says it's more about the love of the game than anything else.

"Obviously we would like a title but it's all about enjoying the game, that's the main thing. If you don't enjoy the game, you're not going to win. Enjoyment is paramount across the whole club," he said.

"In saying that, hopefully we'll be pretty strong this year. We had our first training session last night [January 13] and will be running more on Wednesdays through to February, and then it will be on both Mondays and Wednesdays onwards."

With 2021 being the final year Jubilee Oval will be home to the Mudgee Wombats after 43 years, the club have prepared a "tight-lipped" send off to the facility.

"It's all pretty tight-lipped at the moment. It's a surprise for our last year at Jubilee before we move out to Glen Willow so keep your eye out," Hands said.

"We thought we would do something special for the ground, it's been our home since 1978 so we thought it would be appropriate to send the ground off properly."
